Financial Burden of Cardiovascular Disease in Colombia

Heart disease (cardiovascular disease) is essentially a condition of the coronary arteries which supply the human heart with oxygenated blood. When the arterial walls become hardened by arteriosclerosis (hardening and narrowing of the arterial walls) or by some other disease, only then can the blood flow into the heart muscle to repair it. Most heart diseases happen due to sudden blockage of the blood vessels in the brain or on the spinal cord. Most of these occur in people with a family history of heart disease.

Objectives of Study

Atherosclerosis is the most common form of heart disease in Colombia and accounts for nearly seventy percent of heart disease cases. Atherosclerosis is not a disease but a condition caused by an increase in cholesterol in the bloodstream, caused by high consumption of fats and sugar. As a result, fatty deposits build up on the arterial walls and harden. Eventually, these deposits cause a build up of plaque inside the artery walls. This plaque causes blockage and ultimately heart attack.

Atherosclerosis is a very dangerous condition because the increased blood pressure that accompanies it causes the lining of the arterial walls to rupture. This is why it is referred to as the 'culprit of cardiovascular disease'. It is the leading cause of heart attacks. If left untreated, atherosclerosis can lead to heart failure.

Future burden of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) in Colombia

Atherosclerosis is not only caused by saturated fats and sugar but by alcohol, as well as tobacco. Smoking has been proven to increase the risks of heart disease, even if you have never had a heart attack before. The risk for heart attack goes up as the smoker ages. However, you should not stop smoking because you already have atherosclerosis.

Atherosclerosis can also occur due to genetic reasons. It may be caused by heredity. You may have a parent who is genetically predisposed to heart disease and this is why your risk for this illness is very high. Another genetic cause for atherosclerosis is known as familial hypercholesterolemia. People with familial hypercholesterolemia have excess fat deposit in the body and this is one of the reasons for high cholesterol levels in their blood.

Atherosclerosis may also be caused by a vitamin deficiency. A deficiency of vitamin D can also cause the development of atherosclerosis. Some of these diseases are related to a family history of heart disease; therefore, the condition will also be genetic. The inheritance of this disease can also lead to other conditions such as high cholesterol and other cardiovascular diseases, such as angina pectoris and peripheral arterial disease.

Atherosclerosis can be very difficult to cure. This is because atherosclerosis is a progressive condition and cannot be cured with medicine alone. Although this disease affects the walls of the arterial walls, there are no surgical methods available to remove the hardening of the arterial walls. There are many medicines available to treat it. However, if it is left unattended, it can lead to permanent heart problems.

Treatment for atherosclerosis will depend on its severity and the cause of it. Medications may include anti-inflammatory drugs, medications to reduce inflammation, and even surgery if the condition is acute. Surgery is only recommended to remove the damaged parts of the arterial walls. The underlying causes of atherosclerosis should be treated and this can be done by proper diet and regular exercise. These measures will help you in avoiding the onset of this condition.

You should always seek medical attention when you have symptoms of any kind. If you have any signs of heart disease or heart attacks, it is best that you go to the doctor immediately. The reason for the visit to the doctor is that you do not know how serious your condition is. Therefore, your doctors will be able to tell you about your condition and recommend the best course of action. Your doctor will tell you what treatment is best for your case. Once you know what treatment option is best for your particular condition, you will be able to choose it yourself and you can prevent the disease from worsening.

Conclusions of Study

Heart disease is a very big concern these days and people are worried about it. However, if you take all the precautions, you can live a long healthy life. If you know what you should do to prevent heart disease and how to avoid it, you will live longer.

Always remember that prevention is better than cure. You should not wait until it is too late to prevent heart problems.
